From Me to Me

Childhood for most is the most carefree and cherished phase of life.

But when I glance at my watch now, I wonder when things changed.

When did the cadbury with the white Mickey Mouse centre become a Bournville?

When did Tom and Jerry pyjamas become Victoria Secret?

When did Oswald switch to Rick and Morty?

When did my 5pm Bournvita swap with 2am black coffee?

Childhood for most is the most carefree and cherished phase of life

But when I turn on Google Maps now, I wonder where things changed.

Where did the Percy Jackson books go when Game of Thrones took over?

Where did Fanta pass on the baton to Red Bull?

Where did the Dove soap hide my Doy care?

Where did the Math geek buy the eyeliner

And where did the girl that cried over Hannah Montana backpacks

rendezvous with this one who cries over unrequited love?

Childhood for most is the most carefree and cherished phases of life

But in the midst of figuring out this calculus problem, I wonder how things changed.

How did the bowl cut become long layers?

How did school timetables get replaced with period schedules?

How did Wattpad accounts become Instagram handles?

How did I come to hate Newton more than Umbridge

And how did the classic 2 mountains, a river and 3 v-shaped birds in the sky

transform into this charcoal sketch of BTS?

Childhood for most is the most carefree and cherished phases of life

When I look in the mirror now, I think I know why.

I know why my eyes now shine with ambition

I know why my voice is a lot more resolute

I know why I weep less and smile more

I love what I am now

However, as a child, i was in a hurry to grow

I wanna tell that little girl now

Without you, this 2.0 version would’ve never been found.
