She stood and watched as the sun went down,
bright hues of red, yellow and orange mellowed by the waves of water.
The beige sand now appeared tawny,
And the previously hushed winds now whistled afar. “Everything is so surreal”, she thought to herself pensively.
"I love you" he had said, but she couldn't say it back. She refused to acknowledge that he was dying;
that every moment was slowly slipping by.
"Don't go" she had said, crying, as the light left his eyes.
And for that she'll always hate herself.
Now, returning a decade later,
"I love you too" she whispered, as tears trickled down her eyes.
