The Pandemic Blues

The pandemic hit, Papa lost his job

And I was of my right to education robbed.

It is seven in the morning

And I am awoken by the

Sounds of the fledglings

Running helter-skelter

To this house conformed

I see my brothers

In their tidy uniforms

Getting ready for school

Where did I go wrong

In my efforts to learn?

To enter school with my brothers

I longingly yearn

My dreams and aspirations

Shattered, and as injustice was served

Ruthless and unrepentant

Society to me then seemed

They ordered I shall wed

Hands stained with henna

Vowing by the fire with eyes lowered

My mind reeled as my soul did sink

The pandemic hit, Papa lost his job

And I was of my right to education robbed.
