The Table Across

It shouldn’t break me, but it did.

Seeing them lost in their world broke me.


I didn’t even know them;

But the way she looked at her child sparked a sense of abandonment within me.


Happy. Complete. Innocent.

Emotions running wild in the smile of her child.

A sense of love and pride gleamed in her eyes.


Alone. Incomplete. Numb.

That’s all I saw in the chair in front of me.
